Marcus Stoinis has joined Dwayne Bravo and Shane Watson in an exclusive club by becoming only the third player to score a half-century and take at least three wickets in the Men’s T20 World Cup. A final victory of 39 runs could mean a great victory for a team that wants to hold all three ICC trophies simultaneously. However, Australia faced some problems with the bat, relying on Stoins and David Warner to reach 164 runs.

Stoinis’ dangerous  innings in the 15th Over

Oman’s bowling stopped Australia in the middle. But the situation has changed dramatically in the last 15 years. Despite being caught out early, Stoinis showed his strength and took four wickets in one over. Stoinis’ dangerous performance of 26 runs completely turned the atmosphere in favor of Australia. He put pressure on them to finish the innings successfully and score more in the innings.

A Powerful start for Australia in the power play

Batting first, Australia got off to a cautious start in the powerplay overs. Despite Travis Head hitting an early boundary from the first ball, Barbados’ slow pitch did not suit their aggressive batting style. Bilal Khan struck four more scalps before getting out in the third over. Oman bowled somewhat tough in the rest of the powerplay. He deftly stopped David Warner and Mitchell Marsh from hitting boundaries, restricting the 2021 champions to just 37 off the first six overs.

Warner and Stones shine after Oman’s take, breaking their standoff.

There was a significant change in momentum in the latter stages of the power play. Australia regained momentum after Warner sent Mehran Khan to a free-hit full toss for four. Captain Marsh clean sweeps Aaqib Ilyas in the eighth over.

But Oman’s bowlers, especially their captain Mehran Khan, had other plans. He tightened his grip in the next 30 balls and hit a boundary successfully. In the ninth over, the pressure eased as Marsh and Maxwell were dismissed one after the other. Marsh misses a rising shot but Maxwell’s struggle continues with a golden duck, brilliantly caught by Elias at diving cover.

At the end of the 12th over, Australia were at 63/3 at a precarious pace. The turning point eventually came when Warner broke the tie by hitting Zeeshan Maqsood for two consecutive fours. The mistake happened in the 15th over of the innings when Stones went all out in Mehran’s last over. A dropped catch by Ayan Khan at long-off proved crucial as Stoinis showed his prowess by hitting three huge sixes to plunder an impressive score of 26, swinging the momentum in Australia’s favour.

Stoinis Unstoppable

Unleashing his power after the crucial dropped catch, Stoinis dominated the death overs. He effortlessly cleared the ropes, showcasing his ability to manipulate the field. When faced with straight boundaries for his powerful groundstrokes, he cleverly shifted across the crease, finding gaps on the leg side. Oman’s full-toss offerings were also dispatched ruthlessly, with Stoinis completing a rapid 27-ball fifty by pulling a Bilal Khan delivery over deep mid-wicket. Warner, though taking slightly longer (46 balls), joined the party with a six to reach his fifty. The veteran opener, now Australia’s highest run-scorer in T20Is surpassing Aaron Finch, eventually departed for a well-made 56. However, Stoinis remained unbeaten on a belligerent 36-ball 67, guiding Australia to a well-above-par total of 164. All-rounder Stoinis Shines as Australia Dominates Oman

Oman’s Chase Stutters Early

Oman’s chase never really got going. Despite a momentary spark with a boundary off the first ball by Prajapati, their hopes were dented by Mitchell Starc‘s early breakthrough. A review confirmed an LBW dismissal for Athavale off Starc’s delivery. Oman lost two more wickets in the powerplay, both to seam bowling. Prajapati was trapped LBW by Ellis attempting a flick, while Aqib Ilyas edged a Stoinis delivery to the keeper after a brief six over deep square leg.

Oman Show Occasional Resistance But Fall Short

Stoinis continued his impressive outing with another wicket in the middle overs, dismissing Zeeshan Maqsood who edged a sweep shot to the keeper. Ayaan Khan provided a brief glimmer of hope with a couple of boundaries off Ellis, but Oman found themselves at a precarious 48/4 halfway through their chase. Starc returned to remove Khalid Kail, while Adam Zampa picked up his 300th T20 wicket by yorking Shoaib Khan.

Oman Avoid Whitewash But Fall Short

With the score at 75/6 after 15 overs, an Australian whitewash seemed likely. However, Ayaan Khan (36) and Mehran Khan (27) offered some late resistance. Ayaan smashed a couple of sixes off Zampa before being dismissed, while Mehran took on the bowlers with a six and a four off Hazlewood, followed by another six off Ellis. He eventually fell to Stoinis’ third wicket, a well-judged catch by Tim David in the deep. Oman managed to avoid being bowled out, reaching 125/9, but fell short of the target by 39 runs.
